Filmed pretending to snort cocaine, MP in speeding lies furore
THE disgraced Labour MP facing jail for lying to police to avoid a speeding charge has been filmed pretending to snort ‘cocaine’.
Fiona Onasanya, who has compared herself to Jesus and Moses since her conviction, was kicked out of the Labour Party after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
Last night a video surfaced of her seemingly pretending to take the Class A drug. In a short video clip obtained by the Daily Mirror, she faces the camera as she says: ‘I’ve just come out of a meeting and I feel inspired.’
She then uses a card – the size of a credit card – to perform a chopping motion, as drug takers would on a line of cocaine.
The MP can then be seen bending down towards the table as she mimes snorting the imaginary substance. It was unclear when and where the video was filmed. The 35-year-old solicitor gave no comment on the video when asked by the Mirror.
Ian Lavery, the party’s chairman, this week announced she had been expelled after her refusal to leave, allowing a new Labour candidate to fight a byelection. Onasanya is awaiting sentence, and offered no apology, but will now have to represent Peterborough as an independent MP.
In her regular column in her local paper, the Peterborough Telegraph, she recently offered a defiant defence of her record.
The paper’s editor defended publishing the column by pointing out that Onasanya still represented the city.
But in a statement to the Peterborough Telegraph, Mr Lavery said: ‘Fiona isn’t a member of the Labour Party, she isn’t a Labour MP.’
Onasanya – a former Labour whip in charge of maintaining party discipline – faces a possible jail sentence after being found to have lied ‘persistently and deliberately’ to police about who was driving her car.
During the case, Onasanya was accused of colluding with her brother Festus, who admitted perverting the course of justice. The siblings are both due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey.
