Tories take 6-point lead over Corbyn

-

THE Conservatives have taken a six-point lead over Labour despite the Government’s Brexit woes, a poll has found.

The YouGov survey of 25,000 voters put support for the Tories at 40 per cent, Labour on 34, the Liberal Democrats on ten and Ukip on four.

Conducted for the People’s Vote lobby group, the poll was carried out over the festive period.

The Tory lead, the largest since the 2017 election, came after Theresa May was forced to pull the Commons vote on her Brexit deal and then faced a vote of no confidence when 117 of her MPs voted against her.

Despite this, Tory support dipped by just one point from the last comparable YouGov survey in mid-December.

By contrast, support for Labour fell by five points – the party apparently leaking votes to the Lib Dems, which saw its rating up three points.

The results are a boost for Mrs May and suggest received wisdom that divided parties lose support may not apply.
