Britons say ‘Brexit’ 500m times a day

-

THE word Brexit is uttered more than 500million times a day, a study found.

The average person has chatted about leaving the EU for more than 122 hours – more than five days – since the Brexit referendum of June 23 2016, the research showed.

It found the word Brexit is uttered 507million times daily with 92million conversations about it in the UK – nearly two for every adult.

The survey of 2,000 Britons was carried out to promote the Channel 4 drama Brexit: The Uncivil War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which will be broadcast tonight.

A total of 67 per cent of those who took part said that speaking about Brexit raised their stress levels, with many worrying that they did not understand the issues or fretting about the future.

Thirty-two per cent said they tried to change to subject whenever Brexit came up in conversation.

The study also found there had been just over 180million tweets on the issue since the 2016 referendum.

A spokesman for Channel 4 said: ‘ Brits can’t avoid Brexit.’
