Quick healer Kane is aiming for fast return

- By SAMI MOKBEL

TOTTENHAM striker Harry Kane is targeting a return to action ahead of schedule.

Spurs insisted on Tuesday that the forward would not be back in training until March at the earliest after he suffered ankle ligament damage late in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester United.

Such a lengthy lay-off would cause the England captain to miss a series of key fixtures — including the Champions League last-16 clash with Borussia Dortmund and a possible Carabao Cup final at the end of February.

But Kane, with 21 goals this season, has proved in the past that he is a fast healer, more often than not returning ahead of expectation.

And with such an important run of games coming up, he is eager to return as soon as possible.

Tottenham will take a cautious approach to their star striker’s rehabilitation, knowing rushing him back could backfire. And manager Mauricio Pochettino insists Kane’s injury will not alter Tottenham’s approach in the transfer market this month.

With Kane out and Son Heungmin on South Korea duty, Spurs are without two of their most prolific strikers.

But Pochettino said: ‘The injury hasn’t changed our mind. It’s a good opportunity for players to play more and to step up.’

Son won a penalty and set up the second goal as South Korea beat China 2-0 in the Asian Cup in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

They are through to the next round after topping Group C and Tottenham could be without Son until early February, depending on how far they progress.

Hull forward Jarrod Bowen is being tracked by Spurs this month. Pochettino has played down his interest in the 22- year- old but is considering an offer.
