ENGLAND’S RAW RECRUITS... THE 4 UNCAPPED PLAYERS
DAN ROBSON (SCRUM-HALF)
Age: 26 Club: Wasps
Height: 5ft 8in Weight: 12st 13lb DID YOU KNOW? He was allergic to animals as a child, but now has two French bulldogs and a boxer. His father Simon sat on the bench five times for England, but never won a cap. EDDIE’S VERDICT: ‘We want that fast half-back at the end of the game that can shift the ball quickly and make breaks when the defences are sometimes fatigued.’
OLLIE THORLEY (WING)
Age: 22 Club: Gloucester Height: 6ft 1in Weight: 15st 4lb
DID YOU KNOW? He is interested in Victorian history and was offered a place at Durham University to read history before rugby took over. He plays piano and ran the 100m in 10.6secs at 16.
EDDIE’S VERDICT: ‘He doesn’t know much about rugby. His evolution as a player will be to start to get a feel for the game but he is courageous, strong, powerful and he’s a bright lad.’
BEN EARL (FLANKER)
Age: 21 Club: Saracens Height: 6ft 1in Weight: 16st
DID YOU KNOW? Played cricket for Kent until he was 15 and was third in the country at freestyle swimming aged 13. Read Comparative Literature at Queen Mary University.
EDDIE’S VERDICT: ‘He comes in directly as a back-up to Tom Curry. He’s got a nice feel for the game. He’s got to learn a bit more about the harder parts but his development has been quite impressive.’
JACK SINGLETON (HOOKER)
Age: 22 Club: Worcester Warriors Height: 17st 2lb Weight: 5ft 10in
DID YOU KNOW? Eddie Jones called him ‘English Breakfast’ on the 2017 Argentina tour — mocking his body shape — but he has since cut fast food from his diet. Singleton is one of only two players (Jonny Hill) to be picked in a match-day squad without winning a cap. EDDIE’S VERDICT: ‘Jack Singleton we’ve had in or around the mix since Argentina. With Dylan’s absence he gets his opportunity.’
