CUT FOOD WASTE

- Lovefoodhatewaste.com.

POSH LEFTOVERS

SIGN up to the free Too Good To Go app, and you can help cut restaurant waste by taking away unsold freshly cooked food for around half the price it would cost to order.

The app will tell you what you can order, when, and for how much. Deals include £11 of sushi for just £3.50 from YO! Sushi, and you can pick up a box of Patisserie Valerie goodies worth £10.50 for £3.59 at closing time.

BE NEIGHBOURLY

GOT a glut of apples or a few too many cupcakes? The Olio app connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses, so surplus food can be shared rather than thrown away. To give away an item, simply add a photo, description and list when and where the item is available for pick-up. To access free items, simply browse the listings and arrange a pick-up via private messaging.

CHILL OUT

ACCORDING to campaign group Love Food Hate Waste, the average fridge temperature in the UK is a balmy 7c, while the ideal should be 5c or less.

Maintaining your fridge at the right temperature could extend the life of milk, yoghurts and cooked meats by an extra three days experts say — cutting food waste dramatically.
