Labour ‘did nothing’ after anti-Semitic death threat

DAME Margaret Hodge hit out at Labour last night for ignoring a dossier of violent anti-Semitic abuse directed against her – including a call for Hezbollah to murder her.

The Labour MP, who is Jewish, revealed that she contacted the police after she was accused of being a ‘NazIsrael apologist’ and a ‘pro-Zionist Trojan horse’ by supporters of Jeremy Corbyn.

The catalogue of abuse was also sent to Labour, but while the police responded by charging one of the perpetrators, Labour has not contacted the MP at all.

Another online message – out of almost 200 collected by Dame Margaret and sent to the police – sughow gested she should be killed by Middle Eastern terrorists.

It said: ‘Margaret Hodge is a Zionist pig... and hopefully Hezbollah will catch up with the bitch.’ Militant group Hezbollah was once described as ‘friends’ by Mr Corbyn.

MPs accuse the Labour leadership of failing to tackle anti-Semitism amid reports that dozens of former members suspended for offending Jews are now back in the party.

Many of the abusers identified themselves online as supporters of Mr Corbyn or the hard Left.

Last night, Dame Margaret asked why it was that the police had taken action when she contacted them last year, but none of the Labour members responsible had been expelled by her party.

Labour’s general secretary told MPs yesterday that it was impossible to stamp out anti- Jewish racism from the party. Jennie Formby, a key ally of Mr Corbyn, refused to say many cases of anti-Semitism the party was still dealing with.

Hundreds or even thousands of complaints are thought to have been made. MPs said the leadership appeared to have given up on fighting the ‘cancer’ of anti-Semitism.

Labour MP John Mann also said he had received two threats of violence from Labour members. He has referred the matter to the police – but received no response when he drew it to the party’s attention.

Dame Margaret has been sent abusive messages almost every day since she stood up to Mr Corbyn over anti-Semitism. One said: ‘Margaret Hodge is an out and out NazIsrael apologist... The fascists in NazIsrael are getting scared.’

Another called Jewish MPs Ruth Smeeth, Luciana Berger and Dame Margaret ‘dim-witted Zionist sluts’, while a third referred to Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, calling Dame Margaret a ‘stupid Netanyahu loving ****’.

The MP was also told she should ‘pack her bags and f*** off out of the Labour Party’, while she was also called a ‘foul-mouthed gobs***e.’

Dame Margaret said: ‘The police are taking action. The only reaction I’ve had from the party is from the person who wrote one of the emails I submitted, who contacted me to say how dare I complain.’

She said anti- Jewish trolls were causing offence ‘ with impunity’, adding: ‘There’s always been underlying anti- Semitism on the hard Left – but it has never before been allowed to exist unchallenged.’

A Labour spokesman said: ‘ The party takes all complaints of antiSemitism extremely seriously. We are committed to challenging and campaigning against it. All complaints about anti- Semitism are fully investigated and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.’
