Oh Mr Juncker, you’re a real card!

-

JEAN-CLAUDE Juncker yesterday posed with a greetings card that accused Britain of not caring about peace in Northern Ireland.

The European Commission president received the message from a Dublin family as he met with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in Brussels.

The front of the giant green card was printed with the words: ‘A really, really big thank you from Ireland.’

Inside it read: ‘Mr Juncker, I will be honest, I never really understood the importance of the EU. It was something we learned about in school, a part of history, more than a part of today.

‘But your five words, “Ireland’s borders are Europe’s borders” made me want to jump for joy, punch hands into the air, and kiss you. For the first time ever, Ireland is stronger than Britain.

‘That strength comes not from guns or bombs. It comes from your words and that of your colleagues. Britain does not care about peace in Northern Ireland. To them it’s a nuisance.’
