Is May set to offer a workers’ rights Bill?

-

A DRAFT Bill to protect workers’ rights after Brexit could be proposed by Theresa May as early as next week, labour sources claimed last night.

Unions and labour MPs have demanded that regulations and laws do not slip below eU standards after the UK leaves – and guaranteeing this in a Bill would persuade labour MPs to vote for the PM’s withdrawal deal.

labour backbenchers said the legislation was being drafted and was expected to be tabled by Mrs May before the next meaningful vote in Parliament.

Mrs May has been meeting labour MPs from leave areas, as well as union bosses, in a bid to win more support for her Brexit deal. legislation on concessions over employment rights could win over 40 to 60 labour MPs, one said yesterday.

A Government source said he did not recognise the claim that a Bill was in the final stages of drafting but that the PM was prepared to look at legislation.
