Got it Made: online furniture sales soar

-

DEMAND from trendy millennials for velvet sofas and brass lamps has put a rocket under sales at Made.

The online furniture firm sold £173m of stock in 2018, up 37pc on 2017.

Chief executive Philippe Chainieux said its website is popular with new homeowners in their 20s and 30s. The UK accounted for most sales, but the firm expects the rest of Europe to outpace Britain this year.

It operates in nine countries in Europe and plans to launch in more this year.

Made has no stores to buy from, but has a number of showrooms. It continued to lose money as it expands, and did not say when it hopes to be profitable.
