Spice to see you: Ginger and Charles are reunited

- By Mary O’Connor

WHEN they were pictured together 22 years ago, she was part of the hottest pop group on the planet and he seemed entranced by her eye-popping top.

Last night the one-time Ginger Spice was reunited with Prince Charles – and dressed more demurely for the occasion.

Geri Horner and Charles were at a reception for the Prince’s Trust at the Savoy Hotel in London, where the Spice Girl was joined by her husband Christian Horner, boss of the Red Bull Formula 1 team.

Mrs Horner wore a one-shouldered black gown with her hair curled in gentle waves.

It was very different from their first meeting in May 1997 at a Prince’s Trust charity concert at the Manchester Opera House.

Back then, Geri and bandmate Mel C both kissed the prince on the cheek, and Geri reportedly pinched his bottom – although she has since described it as a ‘pat’.

Last night she praised the prince as a ‘modern royal’ and spoke of her pride in knowing the heir to the throne.

‘I feel like we should be really proud of what he does,’ she said. ‘ He’s a modern man, he’s a modern royal in everything he does. He has consciousness. He thinks about the world that we live in.’

Asked if she would like to see Charles attend a concert of the newly reformed Spice Girls, she said: ‘He’s always welcome, always welcome.’

The Queen has extended her winter break at Sandringham while Prince Philip waits to see if he faces police action over his car crash on January 17. In recent years she has returned to London on February 7 or the first weekday after the anniversary of her father’s death on February 6. But royal sources said she would return next week.
