Roads minister Jesse Norman urged Britons to buckle up after the study revealed up to one in ten passengers do not wear a seatbelt.

Just 93.1 per cent of frontseat passengers – and 90.7 per cent of those in the back seat – wore their seatbelt.

However, the proportion of drivers doing so has risen to 96.5 per cent, compared with 95.3 per cent for England and Wales in 2014.
