ARTHUR CRAVAN was a nephew of Oscar Wilde’s and liked to kit himself out on occasions in the sort of clothes Oscar might have worn — and he wasn’t above forging his uncle’s signature. Among other things, Arthur was a poet, boxer, sailor, prospector, cardsharp, chauffeur and thief. He swanned around the Continent, living the bohemian life, then scarpered to America to avoid World War I. He was thought to have drowned off the coast of Mexico, but may not have. Arthur Smith presents THE ARTHUR CRAVAN MEMORIAL SOCIETY (RADIO 4 EXTRA, 6.30AM, 1.30PM, 8.30PM), an entertaini­ng account of an eventful life.
