Labour activists did bully Jewish MP, says Watson
LABOUR’S anti-Semitism crisis deepened yesterday as deputy leader Tom Watson accused activists of bullying a Jewish MP.
Mr Watson repeated his call for the party in Liverpool Wavertree to be suspended over its treatment of Luciana Berger. He said it was being investigated and accused members of ‘trying to drive out’ the MP after it had planned a motion of no confidence in her.
Liverpool Wavertree Constituency Labour Party was to discuss two confidence motions which accused Miss Berger of ‘continually using the media to criticise’ leader Jeremy Corbyn.
But the meeting was called off, with Mr Watson calling on Labour general secretary Jennie Formby to suspend the CLP. Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show yesterday, he said of Miss Berger: ‘She’s being bullied. That motion should never have been moved.’
Wavertree CLP’s executive said it had no control over motions submitted by its members, adding that suggestions of to bullying and anti-Semitism were ‘false and slanderous’.
