Cod almighty! Angler reels in 31lb beast

ANGLER Lee Frampton won’t be short of a fish and chip tea for a while – he’s got enough cod to last him weeks.

Mr Frampton, 41, was fishing off the Isle of Wight when this 31lb monster, pictured, went for his squid bait.

He said: ‘It was the only cod I caught on a seven-hour trip but I guess it was worth the wait. I knew it was big but didn’t realise just how big until we got it on the boat. It is a hell of a size and I was very happy with it.’

The angler took his spoils home and made fillets for his friends, family, and freezer. The 4ft long fish is thought be the biggest cod caught in the Channel this year, and is only 4lb off the record for the Isle of Wight.

However, it is still some way off the British record – a whopping 58lb 6ozs cod was caught at Whitby in 1992.
