Love is ... a cushion from my son made out of my late wife’s skirts

- By Kelly Allen

RECEIVING a gift made out of your late wife’s clothes may not be to everyone’s taste.

But broadcaster Simon Thomas has said a cushion crafted from old skirts was his ‘absolute favourite’ birthday present given to him by his son and his new girlfriend.

The former Blue Peter presenter, 46, who lost wife Gemma to cancer, proudly shared a picbeing ture on Instagram thanking Ethan, nine, and Derrina Jebb, 27, for the keepsake – which also featured family photos.

He praised the owner of online company 3tothread, Tarah Finlay, for making the gift, saying: ‘A cushion made from two of Gemma’s skirts made by the brilliant Tarah thank you so much.’

Mrs Thomas, 40, died in November 2017 just three days after diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

The devoted father quit his job as a Sky Sports presenter six months later saying he wanted to give more time to his son.

Last month he shared a photo of a blue and white teddy made from his wife’s dressing gown for Ethan.

The toy, also made by 3tothread, was inscribed with the words: ‘My darling Ethan, I love you with all of my heart and always will, your mummy xxx.’

The father-of-one opened up about his new relationship last November – admitting he could be falling in love – but said his wife could never be replaced.

He told BBC Radio 5Live: ‘She [Miss Jebb] has been an incredible support for me.

‘She was the only person who would always pick up the phone. What I saw in her, I saw in Gemma.’
