FEBRUARY HOPE

February brings Valentine’s Day, Kisses, hearts, a card. A hint of spring is in the air Although the ground may still be hard. The first daffodils and snowdrops bloom In gardens, parks and lawns, A spring promise that will be fulfilled With each warmer day that dawns. February can bring some dismal days With frost and icy rain, Yet with each lighter hour Comes hope to rule again. Hope that sees spring’s promise Slowly reach fruition With nature’s blooming and flowering bulbs To which she gives her benediction. February, the month of love, That spells the end of winter’s reign, As birds begin to build their nests, When hope begins to bloom again. February, swiftly passing, When the weather can be dire, Yet with Easter waiting in the wings What expectation can be higher? Mrs L. M. Wadlow, redditch, Worcs.

Prince Philip has had to give way, (Not before time, some might say), So maybe the Queen Said: ‘Come on, old bean, It’s time to call it a day.’ I. G. Fenner, New Milton, Hants.
