I’ve got diabetes and will give anything a try

-

WHAT an inspiration! All of the children like me with type 1 diabetes salute Henry Slade, England’s try-scoring rugby hero, who has the condition. I was diagnosed aged five. Like Henry, once you get the hang of counting carbs in food and injecting the amount of insulin you need, it’s no big deal. I could think of a lot worse things to deal with. Like Henry, I keep jelly babies handy in case I get a low reading. A couple of these sweets will sort me out. I’m so pleased Henry has shown that having type 1 diabetes doesn’t mean you can’t join in any activity or sport you want to. This photo shows me with my man-ofthe-match trophy. I have been playing football for Kiveton Park FC Under-10s for three years. I also play golf and have taken part in the Wee Willets competition. It’s sponsored by golfer Danny Willett, who won the U.S. Masters in 2016 and has presented me with an award. KIERAN DOBBY (nine), Kiveton, S. Yorks.
