SHOULD POGBA HAVE SEEN RED?

YES PAUL POGBA’S challenge on Dani Alves warranted a second yellow card. It was similar to the incident with Dele Alli when Manchester United played Tottenham last month. In both cases, Pogba tried to use his leg to protect the ball but got his timing all wrong and caught his opponent. Having already been booked, he left referee Daniele Orsato with no choice. Officials will now be alert to these kinds of challenges from Pogba.

NO POGBA was unlucky to be shown a second yellow card. The midfielder usually shields the ball well. When he gets it wrong — such as the challenge on Alli at Wembley — he should be sent off but the incident last night was not a reckless foul. It was a free-kick and nothing more.
