Lose the dead weights

-

buSinESS editor Ruth Sunderland sketches a fate of doom, gloom and huge job losses if we ‘crash out’ of the Eu. yet the current woes in business and retail have built up while we have been full members, applying every Eu regulation.

The skill of our business community has enabled us to avoid the fate of the Greek, italian, Spanish and portuguese economies, with their mounting unemployment and bankruptcies. Germany teeters on the edge of recession.

how can we be better off shackled to dead weights rather than making our way in a world of opportunity?

NICK MARSH, Northwich, Cheshire. aS ThE backstop is causing so much trauma, may i offer an alternative? issue a bond with a value of £40 billion on a 50-50 basis, payable by the irish and british Governments, with a time limit of ten years.

if a hard border has to be put in place, whichever side makes the first move would forfeit its contribution to the bond. hopefully, this would concentrate the minds of both sides to get us out of this logjam.

JON GREIG, Storrington, W. Sussex.
