HE’LL BE FIRST TO PLAY FOR BOTH SINCE 1897!

-

SHOULD Declan Rice win an England cap he will be just the second to play for both the Three Lions and Ireland. The only other player to do so was Jack Reynolds more than 120 years ago. The Blackburn-born winger moved to Ireland as a child but did not discover his English heritage until he had played five times for the Irish between 1890 and 1891. He won a further eight caps for England between 1892 and 1897, scoring twice. He remains the only player to score both for and against England, with his only goal for Ireland coming in a 9-1 defeat against the country of his birth. Rice won his three Republic of Ireland caps in friendlies against Turkey, France and the USA.
