POCH HAILS HEROES
Spurs on brink of quarters after routing Germans
MAURICIO POCHETTINO hailed his players as ‘ heroes’ after a second-half demolition of Borussia Dortmund left Tottenham with one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Spurs stunned the Bundesliga leaders at Wembley with goals from Son Heung-min, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente, and manager Pochettino said: ‘I feel so proud. My players are heroes.
‘Of course, we are happy because it was a very good result but there is still a lot of work to do. When you are in front of a team like Borussia Dortmund, you have
to show respect. We need to go to there with the idea to win.’ Pochettino, who will now allow his players a few days off, added: ‘For me, I am happy. I want to congratulate my players. A massive performance.’ Son continued his fine goalscoring form in the absence of Harry Kane as he met a cross from Vertonghen to open the scoring in the 47th minute. Pochettino, when told Spurs had won all 13 games in which Son had scored this season, joked: ‘Next time he scores I will go to the dressing room, have a shower and wait for the game to finish. He was fantastic again. ‘He is a player who provides the team with a lot of very good things. He smiles and he creates energy in every single game. We are so happy with him. It’s obvious how good he is.’ Vertonghen, who surprisingly starred on the left wing, made it 2-0 before substitute Llorente added a third. Son said: ‘I think the timing of my goal was very important, I just had to touch the ball and luckily it went inside the post. ‘Vertonghen can play every position, technically he is unbelievable.’
