The city that could elect a dead mayor

A CANDIDATE has reached the final round of a US mayoral election – despite dying in December aged 72.

Charles Lamb’s name will be on the ballot in Edmond, Oklahoma, on April 2 because his death came too late to remove him from the race. Rival Dan O’Neil said: ‘It’s sort of an awkward election.’

If Mr Lamb is elected, the city said it would appoint a living mayor. Those supporting Mr Lamb on Facebook back councillor Nick Massey. However, he will not be out campaignin­g, saying: ‘I prefer to sit back and let the citizens do what they think is right.’
