Frank Field challenger ‘is hard-Left bully’
A HARD-Left councillor accused of bullying Labour moderates is being lined up as the party’s candidate to stand against veteran MP Frank Field.
Tony Norbury was disciplined over claims he intimidated fellow councillors, including an alleged street row that left female activists in tears. He has also attended an event organised by a controversial group that has dismissed allegations of anti-Semitism in Labour as a ‘Right-wing smear campaign’.
Mr Norbury, who sits on Wirral council, was issued with a formal written warning by Labour over bullying claims. He is hoping to be chosen as the party’s candidate in Birkenhead, Merseyside, which today begins its selection process following Mr Field’s decision to leave the party.
Mr Field, who has represented the Merseyside seat since 1979, resigned the Labour whip in the summer, blaming Jeremy Corbyn’s failure to tackle anti-Semitism.
The former minister also criticised the culture of ‘intolerance, nastiness and intimidation’ in the local constituency party.
