Recycle or face taxes, firms told

COMPANIES could be taxed for not using recycled plastic in their products.

The tax would be applied if packaging is not made up of at least 30 per cent recycled content.

It is part of a drive to make packaging producers more responsible by paying the full cost of dealing with their waste. The Government is consulting on an Environment Bill, to be introduced in 2022, which could also bring in a deposit return scheme for cans and plastic and glass bottles.
