Two face court over Sandhurst ‘waterboarding’
TWO officer cadets at Sandhurst have been charged following claims they waterboarded another recruit.
The Royal Military Police (RMP) have charged the men with battery after launching an investigation into the claims six months ago.
The cadets, who will appear in court next Tuesday, were said to have pinned down the victim before pouring water over a cloth covering his face, in an act that induces the feeling of drowning.
It is not known if the waterboarding allegation forms part of the battery charge.
After the claims were raised in August, Brigadier Bill Wright, commander of the academy in Surrey, said: ‘The Army and I expect the highest standards of behaviour at Sandhurst.
‘Anyone found to have fallen short is dealt with robustly, including dismissal, if appropriate.’
An Army spokesman said: ‘Following an RMP investigation two service personnel have been charged with battery ...
‘This case is now with the Service Prosecuting Authority and it would be inappropriate to comment further.’
