Sanders, 77: I’m running again

VETERAN US senator Bernie Sanders has said he will run for president again in 2020.

The 77-year- old, pictured, challenged Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential run-off in 2016 and has told Vermont Public Radio he plans to seek the nomination again.

Mr Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, has earned a loyal following with his passionate defence of liberal proposals – including free college tuition and ‘single-payer’ state healthcare. An outspoken critic of Donald Trump, Mr Sanders previously described him as a ‘racist’.

Mr Sanders will go up against several other Democratic candidates aiming to appeal to the party’s base.

His spokesman said his campaign had raised $1m (£777,000) within three-and-ahalf hours of launching.
