Greggs on a roll as profits rise by 14%

-

ITS addition to the menu may have left some meat-eaters foaming at the mouth.

But Greggs’s vegan sausage roll has helped the firm bring home the bacon as profits rose 14.1 per cent in the first seven weeks of this year.

The company said its ‘exceptionally strong’ performance was assisted by ‘extensive publicity’ on the launch of the plant- based pastry last month. The chain now expects higher profits for this year.

The sausage roll, made using Quorn instead of pork, has become a hit with flexitarians, who cut down on meat and dairy, and vegans alike.
