£4.6m for just ten months work at the helm

-

THE boss of HSBC was paid £4.6m for his first ten months.

John Flint’s base salary and other fixed pay was worth £2.5m and £308,000 went towards his pension.

He got a £1.7m annual bonus, and £68,000 in benefits such as a car allowance and medical insurance.

The 50-year-old father of two, who took over as chief executive at the end of February last year, did not get any money under the long-term bonus scheme because he had not been in the role long enough.

He could get as much as £3.3m a year in long-term bonuses if he hits targets.

Flint’s predecessor Stuart Gulliver received £2.4m for his final two months in the position. Meanwhile, HSBC’s chairman Paul Tucker was paid £1.6m for 2018.

In a filing required by European Union rules, HSBC had around 400 staff earning more than €1m (£880,000) last year.

The best-paid employee got between £9.6m and £10.4m.
