University scandal
WHAT an excellent article by Dominic Sandbrook about the scandal of our universities (Mail).
Thousands of youngsters are wasting their time by studying for degrees that will not enhance job prospects. They would be better off in apprenticeships, where they could learn a trade while earning money.
Universities are so desperate for students that it seems the only entrance qualification is a pulse.
Like a lot of problems, this can be traced back to Tony Blair, who wanted half of youngsters to get a degree. This resulted in an explosion of courses for those not suited for a university education.
Later governments carried on the farce because it reduced youth unemployment figures.
