HM JUMPER, £17.99

-

52pc acrylic, 48pc polyamide, wash at 40 degrees

WHAT: A fluffy lilac jumper which feels divinely soft and cosy. Seems a small cut; the large size is short in the body.

HOME TEST: After five washes, there’s eight per cent shrinkage from neck to hem and the fabric feels far less fluffy. If anything, the colour has deepened, perhaps because it was put in with a coloured wash. Because we tend to wash at cool temperatures, there’s far less problem with shrinkage these days.

LAB TESTS: Very good fabric strength (Jim also points out that this is a ‘common mix of fabrics, as polyamide is just another name for nylon’) and the seam strength was fine. ‘You’d struggle to rip it.’ H&M said: ‘We want to offer our customers quality fashion at the best price, in a sustainable way. We continuously carry out rigorous quality controls to ensure products meet robust quality and safety standards. 30 WEARS? YES
