Sepsis crusader gets MBE

-

SEPSIS campaigner Melissa Mead yesterday carried her son’s ashes in a teddy bear as she was awarded an MBE at Buckingham Palace.

Mrs Mead, 32, was recognised for services to raising awareness of the disease after her son William died in 2014 at just a year old.

She said: ‘It is very bittersweet for everyone because we wouldn’t be here if William hadn’t died, but I know that he lives on in the thousands of lives that he has saved and that is the best that anyone can do.’

William’s death triggered the Daily Mail’s End The Sepsis Scandal campaign.
