King Tut treasures on way to Britain
GLORIOUS artefacts from the tomb of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun are to go on display in the UK – for the final time.
The largest haul of treasures ever to leave Egypt is expected to draw tens of thousands of admirers. The 150-piece collection is touring the world to mark a century since the tomb was discovered.
It includes a statue of King Tut, the pharaoh’s alabaster ‘wishing cup’, and a gold coffinette which once held the King’s internal organs. British Egyptologist Howard Carter unearthed the tomb in 1922, and oversaw its excavation.
The well-preserved objects will be housed in London’s Saatchi gallery, with an exhibition opening on November 2. They will then go on permanent display in Egypt.
