Should we take back jihadi bride?

-

SHAMIMA BEGUM was ‘made in Britain’ and, therefore, should return home to face British justice (Mail). I can imagine what that means! ‘Ms Begum, you are sentenced to be given a home to live in with your baby ahead of others on the waiting list. You will receive benefits and NHS treatment. This court believes you should be able to give TV interviews and write your story as you see it. ‘And you must receive a new identity and have police protection in case you feel threatened by outraged Brits.’ That’s the sort of justice Ms Begum will face should she be allowed back to live in a country for which she clearly had no time while things were going well for IS. I expect her back fairly soon since this country is politically correct as well as gutless.

LES CARR, Liverpool. WELL done, Sajid Javid. At last a minister who is doing the job his position demands.

JOHN McBAIN, Witney, Oxon. I WONDER if many others like me feel uncomfortable with the Home Secretary’s decision to strip Shamima Begum of her British citizenship? No one would disagree that she acted with the typical foolishness and inexperience of a girl of 15. Her illjudged remarks when interviewed by journalists suggest she has learned nothing about diplomacy while in the tender care of IS. Even so, ours is a Christian country and it does not sit easy with me that we can turn away this silly girl with her innocent child. If we do, the danger is that we leave her embittered and at the mercy of those who might use her for propaganda.

KEN SHARP, Newark-on-Trent, Notts. IT IS to be hoped that Shamima Begum and her family will be denied access to legal aid to fight the Home Office’s decision. If they wish to appeal, it should not be at the expense of British taxpayers.

DES MORGAN, Swindon, Wilts. I HOPE Ms Begum rues the day she lost access to this amazing country with unique values.

MIKE SCOTT, Caythorpe, Lincs. SHAMIMA BEGUM is being unfairly pilloried for her opinions, however upsetting they are, rather than her actions. Has she encouraged others to follow her example or been involved in any IS atrocities? Shamima was born, educated and lived here. A technicality about citizenship should not justify separate treatment in her case.

JOHN DAVIES, Dudley, W. Mids. THIS country gave Ms Begum a stable upbringing, but she chose to turn her back on it. Now she wants to come back because things are not going her way. She must live by her decision to leave.

JULIE MILLER, Ramsgate, Kent.
