TV’s Richard and the height of romance

IT would be a tall order to deny they make a mismatched couple.

But Richard Osman, star of BBC quiz show Pointless, is smitten with his new girlfriend Sumudu Jayatilaka, even though at 6ft 7in he towers over the 5ft 2in jazz singer.

The couple – whose romance was revealed by the Daily Mail’s Sebastian Shakespeare last week – were pictured together for the first time on a day out in London.

Osman, 48, has been looking for love since he split from his former girlfriend, Absolute radio host Emily Dean, two years ago.

He and Miss Jayatilaka, 9, who performs at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club, have reportedly been dating for a while but have been trying to keep the romance under wraps.

Osman said last week: ‘We met through mutual friends. I just looked down and there she was. I’m always looking down because everybody is short to me. We don’t really notice the height difference, though.’

The couple are thought to have enjoyed a getaway to Austria last week for Valentine’s Day.

Yorkshire-born Miss Jayatilaka is of Sri Lankan descent. Osman, a father of two who separated from his wife in 2007, is the co-creator of Pointless, which he hosts with Alexander Armstrong.
