Jihadi bride’s family want son let into UK

-

THE family of Islamic State bride Shamima Begum has demanded that her newborn son be returned to Britain from Syria.

The plea will pile pressure on Home Secretary Sajid Javid, who admitted earlier this week that the teenager’s week-old son remains a British citizen.

Begum’s relatives wrote to Mr Javid after he stripped her of her British citizenship earlier this week.

Writing on behalf of the family, Begum’s sister Renu, 31, said the baby was a ‘true innocent’ who deserved to be raised in Britain. Renu wrote: ‘As a family, we ask now how we can assist you in bringing my nephew home to us. In all of this debacle, he is the one true innocent and should not lose the privilege of being raised in the safety of this country.’

Any Home Office move to bring the boy to the UK might be used by Begum, who said she will not be separated from her son, to facilitate her own return to the UK on human rights grounds.

Begum gave birth in a Syrian refugee camp two days before Mr Javid revoked her citizenship. The Home Secretary acknowledged that the boy would eventually be free to enter Britain.

The Begum family’s laywer said there are plans to send a legal representative to the camp as soon as possible to her Begum’s legal bid to return to Britain.
