Standing up for heroes
AGAIN, Mail readers have responded magnificently to a deserving cause.
As of yesterday, £200,000 had been pledged towards the first UK national memorial to the heroes of D-Day, overlooking the coast of Normandy – including donations from those who lost relatives in the fight to liberate Europe from tyranny.
While politicians strike poses over Brexit, ordinary Britons get on with living and giving – take the 100,000 people who have already signed up to the Great British Spring Clean.
The 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord this year serves as a reminder both of the courage and ingenuity of our people, and of the importance of the Continent to our island story.
