COUNTLESS

-

angry voices have demanded that this week’s 12 defector Labour and Tory MPs should stand down and fight by-elections. Among them is Nigel Farage. He recently switched from Ukip to the new Brexit Party — but has not resigned as an MEP. Presumably that’s because the law governing European Parliamentary Elections does not allow for a by-election. Instead, if an MEP stands down, his or her political party must then arrange for the next ranked of the candidates on its election list to take their place. In theory, that would be former Ukip East Sussex county councillor Donna Edmunds (left). The trouble is, she’s now a Tory!
