SISTER Wendy Beckett (1930-2018). The Carmelite nun (right) lived as a hermit in a caravan next to a Norfolk monastery, but was ‘discovered’ by cook delia Smith through a mutual love of art. Sister Wendy proved so natural at presenting art history Tv shows that she needed neither script nor autocue and was dubbed ‘One-take-Wendy’. Known to swig Baileys from the bottle, and for a love of horse racing and Star Trek, she made her subject fun, once saying of Botticelli’s venus: ‘You can’t imagine her doing the washing up.’ GEORGE HARRISON (1943-2001). The youngest Beatle met Paul McCartney on a school bus. A motor racing fan, he said: ‘I followed Formula One until we started being professional musicians, and even then I caught a few races, mainly Monte Carlo.’ He later owned cars including a Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari 365 GTC and Aston Martin dB5 — which fetched £350,000 at auction in 2011.
