BLUNDER REF EAST SHOULD’VE GONE WEST
ROGER EAST was not supposed to be at the Vitality Stadium to produce possibly the worst refereeing performance of his career. In fact, he should not have even been in the country.
Sportsmail can confirm he was originally down to do Cardiff v Watford but became unavailable to do the Friday fixture in Wales. As a result, he and Simon Hooper swapped. A quiet day by the seaside this was not. Three penalties, all of them questionable, a blatant fourth which was not given and 10 yellow cards produced. East, like all officials, has to file a report reflecting on his calls. The 53-year-old, who is one of the oldest on the circuit, will now have to trawl through his errors. It all left Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo to experience the full range of emotions. There was anger when Bournemouth won a penalty after an apparent dive by Joshua King. Disbelief when Wolves were not given their own after a handball by Chris Mepham. Relief when East pointed to the spot in the 83rd minute and Raul Jimenez made it 1-1. And justice when King sent his shot wide after Bournemouth won another spot-kick for Ivan Cavaleiro’s foul on Ryan Fraser, despite it occurring outside the box.
