Foxes step up Rodgers hunt

- LAURIE WHITWELL

LEICESTER CITY have made their move for Brendan Rodgers and are pressing ahead with plans to install him immediately. The Celtic boss is the club’s No 1 target and Leicester believe they can recruit him for the rest of the season. Rodgers had planned to see out the campaign with Celtic to try to win a third treble, but the sacking of Claude Puel has prompted a re-evaluation. The former Liverpool manager would be open to starting straight away, with a heavy heart at leaving Parkhead. Rodgers has maintained his focus is on Celtic, but Leicester are refusing to be dissuaded. It remains to be seen whether Leicester can put together a package that would appeal to Celtic and convince Rodgers to move imminently. It is believed the 46-year-old would cost at least £5million in compensation. Leicester host Brighton tonight and interim boss Mike Stowell has challenged the squad to get back into the top seven. ‘I’ve spoken to the players and told them how good they are,’ he said. ‘That’s where we should be aiming to get back to.’
