Opt-out organ Bill to be law

THE proposed opt-out organ donation system has cleared its final hurdle in Parliament and should be made law in days.

All patients in England will be automatically registered as organ donors unless they request otherwise. The Bill had its final reading in the Lords yesterday and will be agreed by the Queen in the next few days.

Jacob West, of the British Heart Foundation, called it a ‘historic moment’ which will ‘provide a lifeline’ for hundreds of patients waiting for a transplant across the country.
