THE next stop on the retirement taster tour is Vietnam, a country that has the second-highest life expectancy in South-East Asia. Syd Little, Rosemary Shrager, Stephanie Beacham and Wayne Sleep (pictured) set off to explore the secret of happiness, Vietnamesestyle. So long as they don’t get run over by one of the country’s 45 million motorbikes and can cope with the language and the heat, Vietnam has a great deal to offer, from its vibrant, historic cities to the peaceful countryside — and a very low cost of living. They begin in Hanoi, the hot and humid capital, before heading for the mountainous region of Lao Cai, where they cool off and take stock.
