BREXIT

- Norman Wanstall, Burford, Worcs.

I read a paper every day, I like to see the news. I like to know what’s going on And other people’s views. When Brexit first came on the scene I followed every word, Especially as some MPs said That leaving was absurd. But Brexit won the vote because It promised to the nation, That finally the chances were We’d limit immigration. So off Theresa went to try To put a deal in order, But no one thought to raise the point About the Irish border. Instead all kinds of words appeared For everyone to see, Words like ‘Quota Free Trade’ Which meant nothing to me. Eventually, of course, a deal was done, Consensus had been found, But when our MPs had a vote The majority turned it down. Two years have passed since it all began And agreement’s nowhere near, And ‘backstop’ now is the only word That the public ever hear. It’s difficult to understand The problem we’ve created, And for those of us who voted Leave It’s far too complicated. I read a paper every day, It’s what I’ve done for ages, But now when I see the Brexit news I simply turn the pages.
