Did police over-react to pavement parking?
A POLICE officer in Hertfordshire knocked on a woman’s door at 1.30am, giving her the fright of her life, to tell her off for parking on a kerb (Mail). She was presumably reported by a nosey neighbour because, by the time the police arrived, her car was on the drive after she’d moved it before retiring to bed. Police forces up and down the country admit they don’t investigate every burglary because they haven’t enough officers, yet this parking issue warranted a visit. It must have been a very quiet night in Hertfordshire!

WELL done, Hertfordshire police, for taking pavement parking seriously. It’s inconsiderate to pedestrians, not to mention the damage it causes to pavements not designed to support the weight of a car. It’s about time that selfish motorists took responsibility for their actions, even if it means disturbing their sleep.
J. GREEN, Burton-on Trent, Staffs. POLICE were quite right to knock on a door about pavement parking, though maybe it was the wrong time. It’s endemic in my area, with motorists parking on pavements and grass verges. Hard luck if you need to get by with a pram, pushchair, shopping trolley or mobility vehicle. As council tax payers, we contribute to the upkeep of pavements being damaged by inconsiderate idiots.
