SARRI WATCH
MAURIZIO SARRI went into last night’s London derby knowing defeat could cost him his job. Sportsmail kept a close eye on the under-fire Chelsea manager.
DEMEANOUR
AFTER the madness of Sunday, Sarri kept it together… just. He stepped out of the dugout for the first time two minutes in, offering David Luiz a thumbs-up. He became more agitated but not to the extent of his Wembley meltdown. He screamed at his players as Tottenham asserted their authority at the end of the first half. Use of the cigarette butt he carries to cure his in-game cravings became more regular.
TACTICS
FOR 25 minutes we saw Sarri-ball at its best with relentless pressing and crisp passing. It was a far cry from Sunday’s pragmatic approach against Man City. Spurs had their moments but Sarri got his tactics spot on.
AUTHORITY
THIS was further proof things are heading in the right direction. Fans, who have rounded on him in recent weeks, look to have backed him in his decision to drop Kepa Arrizabalaga — the keeper was heckled last night. The fear for Sarri is that his side’s recent improvement is merely delaying the inevitable.
