You’re turning us radio ga-ga, Zoe!

-

RADIO 2’s listeners are complaining about Zoe Ball, the new Breakfast Show host, dubbing her Zoe ‘Bawl’ (Mail). In my opinion, she is a slight improvement on her predecessor Chris Evans, but only just. how the BBC could even think about people like them to replace the late Sir Terry Wogan I can’t imagine. They are not the type of presenters whom radio 2 listeners want, certainly not first thing in the morning. After all, it’s not radio 1. how typical of a BBC spokesman to say: ‘We are thrilled with the launch of the all-new Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on radio 2 and delighted with the positive response we’ve received.’ This just shows that the BBC doesn’t listen to its audience.

MIKE MUNNELLY, Stockport, Gtr Manchester. IT IS no surprise to me that Zoe Ball’s new morning show is not going down well on radio 2. We do not want a revamped radio 1, but the gentle humour, common sense and charming nonsense provided by the likes of the late, great Sir Terry Wogan. And, of course, the music we grew up on, with some good new stuff thrown in. We also like to be told the titles of the songs and the names of the artistes, and we don’t want to hear the presenter babbling over the music. Perhaps the producers could think about what makes radio 2 different from radio 1 and not treat the listeners with such disdain.

LYNN DOHERTY, Gloucester. THERE have been calls for Zoe Ball to tone it down a bit. Oh, yes please! She ‘loves’ everyone and everything, whether it’s people, songs, movies or TV shows, while her other favourite words are ‘brilliant’ and ‘amazing’. I doubt the phrase ‘I don’t like that’ has ever passed her lips. I’m afraid that after 30 years of listening to radio 2, I have given up (apart from Ken Bruce). I can’t wait to see the first lot of listening figures for Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show because I suspect the BBC will be disappointed.

DAVID PITT, Boxley, Kent. I AM so glad other listeners think Zoe Ball is too over the top for first thing in the morning — I thought it was just me being a misery!

JEAN COOPER, Bletchley, Bucks. ZOE BALL has been accused of being shouty, interrupting guests, talking too quickly and being over-excitable. She sounds exactly like Chris Evans, the presenter she replaced.

JOHN BENNETT, Wigan.
