HAND SPEED AND A LIGHT BAT...HOW HE HIT HEIGHTS

- PAUL NEWMAN

JOS BUTTLER says his light bat is the secret behind his stunning innings in Grenada. Some people claim that heavy bats are why sixes and individual scores are on the climb. But Buttler used a 2lb 8oz bat as he went from 50 runs to 150 in 32 balls, smashing low full tosses for six along the way. ‘Hand-speed is something I like to have,’ said Buttler. ‘I feel I don’t have as much control of the swing with a heavy bat. I like to feel on top of the bat path and I guess it feels like a golf swing in the way I time it.’ Marcus Trescothick reckons he could be a hit at baseball too but Buttler said: ‘I did a thing at Hyde Park with Alex Hales with the Yankees and the Dodgers. I could hit it but I kept on slicing it! So I’ll probably leave that one behind for a bit longer.’
