Khan, captain of diplomacy
LAST week, former international cricket superstar Imran Khan faced his first real test as Prime Minister of Pakistan as tensions with India over Kashmir escalated. Khan succeeded brilliantly, releasing Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured after his fighter jet was downed by Pakistani forces. In an age when both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers and one false step could set off an almighty conflagration, Khan has sent a message of peace. It’s now up to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to follow suit. Khan is living up to all the high hopes that greeted his election victory six months ago. And the world is a safer place for it.
