Pep wants four new players

- By JACK GAUGHAN

PEP GUARDIOLA has revealed that Manchester City plan to spend big this summer and cast doubt over Benjamin Mendy’s future. Mendy, a £52million signing from Monaco in July 2017, has made only nine Premier League starts this season and is ruled out of today’s game at Bournemouth. The defender has endured a rocky relationship with the City manager, who is known to have been exasperated by some of the France international’s behaviour. ‘There are three or four positions we have to look for and we have some ideas,’ he said. aid ‘Buying a left back is an option.’ The threat of a transfer ban looms, with FIFA investigating City’s practice of signing teenagers from overseas. That could accelerate their business, with Leicester’s Ben Chilwell the primary target at left back. They are also watching Ajax defender Matthijs Matthij de Ligt, 19, and 21-year-old Frankfurt Fran striker Luka Jovic. Guardiola Gu admitted Mendy’s injury in problems are a significant concern. ‘The truth is we could use him only in a few f games,’ the City boss said. ‘ That is the reality. At the end the th strongest guys are there every eve day. That is the truth. That’s why whyw we are looking for, maybe, the next season. If it (injuries) happens in two seasons, it can definitely happen for three. Hopefully not. We’ll work on that and he’s working with that.’
